Some of the events were just a little too convenient for my taste. Their banter is witty and funny, so you laugh and enjoy it, but the fact is, most of their laughter is directed at the people around them. By far this book is my favourite as I've read the first and second of the In short, an ugly duckling who no one noticeed but her closest friend who considered her a sister, decided to change herself and try to live the meaning of debutant before leaving to the countryside.

But all that could have been ignored, if it weren't for the fact that I just hated the main characters. The first book in this series is still my favorite, but I liked this one a lot too. As the orphaned daughter of a country gentleman, she does not rank high enough for the gentlemen, and her forthright manner earns her criticism. I loved the ending so great and full of love and hope and new beginnings. Mary became a little annoying in the middle of the book and it was a bit tedious at times and seemed out of character. And the longer the story went on, the more it became evident that the hero and heroine are nice people to those closest to them, but rude and caustic about everyone else. Through all of their hardships came understanding, love and friendship. The silliest thing about this book is that Geoff even needed all this to realize how much he cares about Mary.
