I had a couple issues with doing it myself and utilized the Mercury help desk. I'm in a similar position with an older boat 2005 and was wondering if the VesselView Link module was worth it over just using the gateway. That part is: 84-879982T20 I am on software version 3. I may even shoot a video of install front to back for others to use. All of the engine data is available through the Lowrance dashboards and as part of the overlay options.

The interface is a little dorky and not as nice as what you will see on various videos. My assumption is that Mercury hasn't updated their website with the VesselView Link so there is no place for them to post the update for users to download. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the part numbers and what was included in the kit - not much info is out there yet. I assume thats for use on a smartcraft guage, since there is no similar connection point on the Simrad. Really want this thing to work. Do I need to remove everything from the junction box except the Link connection? Hoping to put together a decent how to for folks and maybe Lowrance can use it. My boat doesn't have either right now.
